Interpreting services
Lémania Prague provides interpreting services for international meetings, conferences, congresses, workshops, training sessions and other events. We have a Europe-wide network of highly qualified professional interpreters with great expertise in their respective fields. We can offer our clients the most suitable service for the event in question.
- SIMULTANEOUS INTERPRETING
This technique is normally utilized for international conferences and conventions. It involves the use of a booth and a conference system. The interpreters translate the speakers’ words as they talk, thus allowing all of the members of a multilingual audience to hear what is being said in their own languages. The interpreters tend to work in pairs and take it in turns to do stints lasting 20 to 30 minutes. On request, we can also provide all of the necessary equipment: soundproof booths, interpreting systems, infrared receivers and technical assistance.
- CONSECUTIVE INTERPRETING
With this technique, interpreters sit next to speakers and take notes using a special system as they listen to them for a period of 5 to 15 minutes, then translate what they have said for the audience. This type of interpreting tends to be used in meetings, interviews, trials (sworn interpreting) and in general at events where the members of the audience all speak one language and the person talking speaks another. This system is not as expensive as simultaneous interpreting but it prolongs events and may well double their length.
- WHISPERED INTERPRETING
The interpreter will whisper an instant translation of the speakers’ words in the listeners’ ears. This technique makes it possible to reduce costs because no equipment is required and there is more direct contact between the interpreter and the listener. However, it is normally only used for one or at most two listeners.
- LIAISON INTERPRETING
This type of interpreting is normally used for business dealings, when hosting delegations, and during training sessions and discussions about commercial, legal or technical matters. The interpreter will intervene to give spoken translations as two or more people talk, thus allowing them
to understand each other. The interpreter will switch between the two languages and enable the participants in the discussion to communicate and interact. |
